Press Release - Decision of the Inter-Ministerial PPP Committee to amend its decision (dated 30.01.2008) related to the project “Implementation of a flight simulators Center of the Ministry of Defense”, with the inclusion of a flight helicopter S-70 simulator for the Hellenic Navy, along with a flight helicopter super puma and A-109 simulator for the Hellenic Air Force.
This project is part of the strategic plan of the Ministry of Defence, given that currently no
similar centre exists in our country and pilots are therefore trained abroad.
Training in flight simulators is a total necessary stage for the flight capability of the
helicopter pilots before the operational training, which is the final stage of the helicopter pilot
training.
The inclusion of the above 3 new flight simulators to the already approved PPP project for
the implementation of a Flight Simulators? Centre, improves the value for money of the project,
given that bigger economies of scale are achieved, by the grouping of similar projects.
The new estimated indicative cost (NPV) of the availability payments, made by the Contracting
Authority to the private partner that will undertake the project amounts to 130 million euros, plus
VAT, while the initial estimated cost (NPV) that has been approved by the Inter-Ministerial PPP
Committee (dated 30.01.2008) amounted to 65 million euros, plus VAT. The final cost to be paid by
the Greek State will be determined, upon the conclusion of the contract award procedure.
